What is Light Point Web?
Light Point Web is the world’s safest way to browse the web, because the code from the websites you visit runs on our computers, not yours.
How does Light Point Web work?
Light Point Web works by creating a virtual machine for you on our servers. This virtual machine will run a web browser of its own, which will do all of your browsing for you. Your own local browser will be used to view and control what is happening on the virtual browser. This allows you to browse to, and interact with any website you want, without any of the website’s contents ever reaching your computer. As a result, your computer will not be exposed to malware.
Is Light Point Web an anti-virus product?
No. Anti-virus software works by scanning your computer for known malware. This means that with anti-virus software your computer is vulnerable to recently released malware. Light Point Web is a tool to prevent malware from ever reaching your computer. It does this by denying malicious websites any opportunity to attack your computer.
What limitations does Light Point Web have?
Light Point Web protects you from malware found through internet web browsing, for example, drive-by downloads and malvertising. This is by far the most common way of contracting malware. Light Point Web cannot protect you from malware introduced on your computer through other means, for example, an infected USB drive or CD. Light Point Web also can’t protect you if you willingly disclose your information to an untrustworthy party.
What if I enjoy getting infected by as much malware as I can find?
Boy, did you come to the wrong place.
How does Light Point Web know which content is safe, and which is not?
Light Point Web does not try to distinguish which content is safe versus dangerous. By treating all content as dangerous, it can protect you from all threats on the web. No content from the web is sent to your computer. Think of it as viewing a live video of a web browser running on a completely different computer.
Is the connection to your servers encrypted?
Yes. Your connection to our servers is SSL encrypted. No one that is attempting to snoop your traffic will be able to see which sites you visit, not even your ISP. All they will see is a connection to our servers, but none of its contents will be readable.
How can Light Point Web protect me from malicious downloads?
Light Point Web allows an administrator to create a policy to decide which types of files your users are allowed to download. This can allow you to disallow the most common types of files used to spread malware.
Additionally, any downloads that are allowed by the policy will be automatically scanned by over 40 different anti-malware engines before it is allowed to be sent to your computer.
Do I need anti-virus if I have Light Point Web?
We recommend using Light Point Web alongside a standard anti-virus product. While Light Point Web can protect you from a malicious website corrupting your computer, it can not stop, detect or remove a threat introduced by other means.
What if I already have malware on my computer?
Light Point Web can only protect you from the moment you start using it. If your computer was infected with malware prior to signing up for Light Point Web, the malware will still be on your computer.
